Comparison: A Killer of Joy

Posted by

It’s natural to compare yourself to others.

Even though it’s natural to compare yourself to those around you, it’s critical that you realize that you’re not seeing the whole picture. Comparing yourself to someone else is never healthy. It can have a major impact on your self esteem.

Social media makes this effect even worse because people generally people only share the best parts of their life. So you’re left feeling like “wow, I wish my life was like that”.

This is a trap that pulls you down and kills your joy. Because we can’t see the full picture of someone else’s life, it’s easy to think someone else has it better than you.

We all have problems and challenges. Some hide it better than others, but even the people that seem to have a perfect life have struggles. And you can’t know what their true picture is because you are not them.

The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday. We are all unique and have a unique challenges and lessons to learn.

So next time you catch yourself wishing you were someone else, or feeling like someone else has it better than you, just remember you can’t see the full picture.

Comparing yourself to others will kill your joy. I hope this post inspires you to be more aware of things you can’t see, and reminds you to stop comparing yourself to others.
