Do you live with respect?
Fist things first, you need to respect yourself. How people treat you is often reflected of how you present and treat yourself. So if you present yourself as not important, people will treat you that way.
The opposite is also true. If you respect yourself and present yourself as someone with confidence and meaning, you’ll see that others will respond the same.
Respect is something we all deserve. Respect should be mindfully given. The golden rule is to treat people the way you want to be treated. The problem is, not all people like to be tested the same way. There is another rule that takes the golden rule a step further. The platinum rule: treat people the way they want to be treated.
There are times when you will not be respected, and it’s important to understand if it’s just your perception or if the intent is deliberate disrespect. If it is the latter, don’t waste your time with that person. If you can’t avoid them, look to conflict resolution.
No one likes to be disrespected. Be mindful of your actions to others and communicate clearly. Oftentimes, when someone feels disrespected, it’s just miscommunication. Likewise, if you feel disrespected, make it clear that’s how you feel. Often, the other person doesn’t realize because they were not being mindful.
Live your life with respect and be respectful to others and yourself! You’ll be amazed at how many people will appreciate this and be more helpful to you!
