The Virtue of Temperance

Do You Practice Temperance?

Temperance is defined as moderation or voluntary self-restraint. It is typically described in terms of what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing.

The ability to practice self restraint is very important. So important that it is considered a virtue.

The term refers to restraint from pleasure. As mentioned in the blog post Find Your Happiness, indulgence in pleasure does not bring happiness.

In All Things Practice Moderation

Temperance can help you achieve balance. Balance is key to harmonizing with yourself and the universe.

When you restrain from indulging in pleasure, the pleasures you do have stay potent. Indulging in them decreases the joy they bring you. That’s where the saying “to much of a good thing” comes from.

Temperance isn’t always easy, but as with most things, it becomes easier with practice. Practicing temperance in your life will save you from many vices and bring you much fulfillment.

I hope this post reminds you to practice moderation and helps you find your balance.
